Mike Tyson Does Chile

Okay, not Mike Tyson himself, but apparently his cousin from Finland had a run-in with the police in Chile.
According to the news story, Marko Kulju wanted to take home a souvenir from Easter Island. He decided that the statues were also tourist shops a la the Berlin Wall or Eckert’s where you can just help yourself to a bit of a keepsake.
Here’s a hint, Mark-o. Keep your hands off the Moai. Just because you want a head like the heads you see on Easter Island, doesn’t mean you can play Peter in the Garden of Gethsemane and hack off an ear. I think you owe more than $17,000 and an apology and deserve more than three years’ banishment from the island.
He states that his attempted theft was, “the worst mistake of my life.” No, you’ll probably be stupid enough to have a worse one; here’s your sign. I guess they shouldn’t complain about American tourists.

Luckily, the Americans are OnLine and alert. So in the Magnificent A-O-L only, 314,000 votes on the judgment in a day, with 3200 comments. (At the same time when China was raiding over Tibet. No poll on that one.)

7 years in a South American prison. Ear off from the guy (says the Mayor). After this volume of hypocricy and publicity, even one day could kill a man in a South American prison.

And as I read the actual story behind the News from Congoo to Australia, it seems to me that he's not proven to break it by purpose. It was an accident, not a theft or vandalism.

But you don't figure that out by reading these genious' news services. One lady shouted that "A tattood guy came, ripped off the ear, stole it and ran!" And our brilliant investigative journalists recycle the hearsay to about 500 million people.

Another viewpoint on the hang-up party of this countryman of mine:

I understand the media does not always get the story straight. I, however, remember being warned when I went to Europe in 1995 not to create an "international incident", which this man did, intentionally or not. It happens--you cannot pick plants in National Parks--but I know it has happened.

I know the rights of Tibet have been debated much around the world. I have seen the attacks on the Olympic torch runners. Mob lynching a tourist or mobbing an athlete--neither one makes sense. That's what I am trying to encourage--people trying to be sensible.

The command 'Thou shall not kill' is as often violated as any other command. Every time we call somebody a madman and shout at him, we are killing him in heart. The etymology of the word Satan is in "Accuser".

Matthew 5:21-24: "Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger..."

Even the local court decision implied that it was merely an accident, not a convicted theft or even an attempted theft or deliberate vandalism. A man would have get jailed for such, up to 7 years. Instead, it was declared that this particular statue was particularly eroded, soft and fragile.

The printed media has gone down with the web mob that demands irrational entertainment, not truth behind matters. The Finnish hiker immediately wrote a letter describing the incident in Spanish in a major Chilean newspaper. But NONE of the Western media houses translated and provided even inserts from the victims own viewpoint. So now we know that even BBC, CNN, AOL abd Congoo News are on the same line regarding the fact that none of them translates original foreign languages to English. They just copy from one another. Mindless recycling. Investigative journalism has died.

"Tattood? A boxer? Vodka tourist from Finland? OK, that is enough, no other questions." (The only problem with the editors' story was that the hiker liked extreme sports and does not use alcohol at all.)

Nobody remembers the old saying:"Watch what you do, for you never know who may be watching your actions" (and I add)and may mis-report them or misrepresent them.
Here's my own question--how did this even happen? Was he completely innocent? Did he fall and try to right himself and bump the statue? If so, then anybody would rule it an accident. Did he touch something that would have been better left untouched? If so, then that's a different case all together.
I call no one a madman.
There is sin--Satan is the Accuser. We all break God's Law, the penalty of which is death. Romans 6:23 says, "The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." The penalty of sin is much harsher than any penalty of any government. Thank God He sent His Son Jesus to take our place on the cross for us. He received our wages of death. We have life through Him. That is the greatest hope.

I suppose it’s too late to point out now that my original post was written in fun. I didn’t mean for anyone to seriously analyze it. I apologize if you were offended by my making light of this situation and your countryman. Let me point out that I am not a journalist, I just happen to like Easter Island and stumbled across the article and tried to take a humorous view of it. I guess it wasn’t funny. I have said now my peace.

We are ALL so prone to be carried away with the social flow. It is especially hard to be independent and resist the 'ambient amen' among the web mob under hysteria of 'just and righteous' lynching maneuvre. Especially if there are anti-pathos prebuilt in ones mindset a priori.

(I'm speaking to myself here now. I have unjust prejudices to some clusters of the manking, which I still have not been able to get rid of after been confrontated with my sin and the holiness of G*d. It helped a bit, however, when I realized that my only begotten son was autistic and stopped talking altogether. Some of us just seem to be totally indifferent to what the other people feel because of neurological stuff.

If so, it does not help how much I will 'teach', punish and hit them. He does not understand. He does not distinguish good and evil from each other, no matter how old he will grow. Now, I think a 'Dummkopf' mental age of nill years even for an adult is a bliss.

Who makes the blind? Who makes the deaf? That's what J-H-V asked from Mo-ses who did not become Ram-ses, Tut-ses or the like but was sent to do kids business of sheep shepharding for 40 years after commanding the Egyptian army in his best mature age. Only after kicking stones for 40 years, was Moses ready for some real ministry after his proud scientific training in Heliopolis in the royal family.

In contrast to the named 'Dummkopfs': For whom much is given, much is also required. I. e. the mass media has a bigger responsibility. They are mindlessly recycling STORIES from each other. Not information but malign and entertainment to operate as lightning conductors away from the real issues behind the scenes. Newspapers today are too www-hectic and busy to find out what really happened. Mindless recycling and copying from each other. Cut'n paste.

I have a backround of screening all the Finnish textbooks (their figures) in biology of the 20th century. As a conclusion, I claim that the most widely recycled theme in those books is a deliberate fraud and fake.

The sad part of the story is that this comparison of vertebrate embryos were known to be fraudulent to start with at the late 1870's. They were used, however, for vulgarization of evolution, to argue that human embryos are nearly identical to dog, cow, amphibian and fish embryos and to argue that human fetuses had functioning gils like fishes. It was argued that 'ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny' so that all individuals climb up their family tree during their 9 month development via fish-stage, amphibian-stage etc.

I have scanned those figures in here:
http://www.helsinki.fi/~pjojala/Koulukirjat.html

and published an article on the mindless recycling of the doctored drawings to brainwash pupils in a series in Bioethics in the Tsukuba science city Japan:

What a fabulous headline. I wish I had thought of that. (I had "Somewhere a Village is Missing its Idiot") I found your post looking for updates on the Easter Island ear story. I see the same Finnish nutjob harrassed you with his ill-conceived comments as well. His remarks about a media witchburning aren't holding up so well now that the perp has confessed all and admitted he was indeed trying to steal the ear. But odd nonetheless.

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.
